How to Convert CD Music to .mp3?

Converting music for media resources can be difficult as you experience many different formats. If you have burned yourself a music CD, it is tough to use that for other digital media projects. When you burn an audio CD the default setting is to encode the music on your computer into a .cda format that can be played in audio players for home and cars.

Yet, if you want that music from the CD to be imported into your digital media projects like a powerpoint presentation or Windows Movie Maker projects, you will need to convert it to a .mp3.

Follow the steps below to convert .cda music to .mp3 using I-Tunes:
*if you do not have Itunes - visit to download

  1. Go to: Start, Programs, Applications, ITUNES
  2. Click on Edit – then Preferences – then Advanced Tab
  3. Click the Change button and point ITUNES to save the files to your desktop.
  4. Click on the Importing Tab – select Import Using MP3 Encoder
  5. Click OK - All tracks will be checked; you MUST uncheck the ones you do not want to convert by clicking on the blue box to the left.
  6. Then, make sure checks are next to the tracks you want to copy
  7. Then on upper right hand corner of the screen, click on “Import CD
  8. As I-Tunes converts the music you will see a green check mark next to it
  9. Your .mp3 files will be on your desktop
  10. When importing music into Movie Maker - browse to the desktop to see your new music

Now bring your digital media projects alive!
